FAQ

"MotionVFX is a great source of high-quality, full HD, entirely customizable templates for Motion and Final Cut Pro."
Apple, Inc.
[FINAL CUT PRO] After applying my clips to a template's Drop Zones, some of them only display a still frame or are offset in time, why?

Since version 10.0.6, Apple has changed the way Drop Zones work.

Before the update, all you needed to do was pick the target Drop Zone, then choose your footage from the Event Browser and hit Apply Clip. It would then be placed starting exactly where the Drop Zone layer starts.

Right now FCPX "looks" at where your Timeline as well as the Event Browser playheads are and synchronizes them in this exact point in time (frame). So to replace the Drop Zones correctly you need to place the Timeline playhead where you want to see the specific part (frame) of your footage, go to your Event Browser, select the desired clip and leave its playhead where you want it to be synchronized with your timeline playhead (otherwise your clips might have already ended and therefore appear as stills - their last frame). After that just click on the Apply Clip button and everything should be OK.

[FINAL CUT PRO] All of your templates are in 24p and my project is based on different frame rate, how can I change it?

Final Cut Pro X automatically adapts a template's frame rate based on your Timeline settings so you don't have to worry about it.

[FINAL CUT PRO] How can I slow down or speed up a project on my Timeline?

Simply grab the project's In/Out point, drag it to increase or decrease its overall length (and therefore speed) and Final Cut will automatically adjust the project's content. Note that extending a template which includes one or more pre-rendered elements (keyed hands, video-based projects) may result in image stuttering so be sure not to overdo it (try using Optical Flow option for better results).

[FINAL CUT PRO] After dropping a template on my timeline, how do I edit its content?

The full Motion 5 template workflow for Final Cut Pro X has been covered by Szymon in the following tutorial (the FCPX part starts at 11:45).

In general, all you need to do is select it on your Timeline and go to the Inspector. Depending on a type of the project, there will be a special tab (called Generator, Title, Transition or Effect) containing all of the published elements. You can change the texts as well as apply your own footage there.

Here's an update on replacing Drop Zones in Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.6 and up:

[FINAL CUT PRO] How do I install your products and where can I find them in Final Cut Pro X?

The full Motion 5 template workflow for Final Cut Pro X has been covered by Szymon in the following tutorial (the FCPX part starts at 11:45).

In general, all you need to do is move the extracted folders to their respective locations:

  • Lower3rd folder  -> /Movies/Motion Templates/Titles/motionVFX/
  • Project folder  -> /Movies/Motion Templates/Generators/motionVFX/
  • Title folder  -> /Movies/Motion Templates/Titles/motionVFX/
  • Transition folder  -> /Movies/Motion Templates/Transitions/motionVFX/
  • Effect folder  -> /Movies/Motion Templates/Effects/motionVFX/

After that they will become available in Final Cut's Effect/Generator/Title/Transition Browsers (motionVFX group).

[MOTION] Why do I have to update to the latest version?

Apple constantly works on improving their software. This often requires changing a lot of stuff and therefore some of it becomes incompatible with the earlier builds. That's why we recommend that you always stay up-to-date.

[MOTION] When I try running one of your projects, Motion tells me that I need version 5.2 or 5.5. This version does't exist yet, what gives?

Apple uses two XML tags to describe a project's version - "ozml version" and "displayversion". Even though the latter one is always correct (5.0.2, 5.0.6, 5.0.7 etc), Motion reads the ozml version (5.2, 5.5) when checking the required build. Because of this it "thinks" that you need Motion 5.5 instead of 5.0.7 (for example). The solution is easy - simply update Motion to the latest build via App Store (the updates are free) and everything will be fine.

[MOTION] Your project runs very slow on my system, what can I do to speed up the editing process/workflow?

Please remember that almost no FullHD (1920x1080) project, especially a 3D one, will work in real-time. Apple's Helium renderer relies heavily on the CPU, RAM, graphics card as well as your HDD speed so if you're working on a lower-end system, it might not perform as well as expected. There are a few things you can do to improve your workflow though:

  1. Make sure that your app is up-to-date. Apple constantly improves their software, also regarding their performance.
  2. Trash Motion's preference files (you can find out how to do it in the following section of this FAQ under "4. Trash Motion's preference files").
  3. Don't store Motion templates on an external/network drive. It can drastically reduce the project's overall performance.
  4. Use RAM Preview (CMD+R). It will render a portion of your timeline so that you can preview it in real-time. Motion stores a lot of preview data so it's good to flush its memory every once in a while (Mark -> RAM Preview -> Clear RAM Preview).
  5. Make sure your photos are 1920x1080 or smaller.
  6. Use ProRes when possible. It can render up to 4x faster compared to H264.
  7. Disable Motion Blur/Reflections/Lighting/Depth of Field, at least during editing. You can turn them back on during export.
  8. Avoid setting the render quality to Best. Normal works fine in most cases.

[MOTION] After dropping a clip with audio onto a Drop Zone, the sound starts at the beginning of the project, is there a way to fix this?

This is a common Motion bug. To go around it simply go up to the Audio tab and click on the little chain icon next to the problematic track. This way you'll unlink it from the Drop Zone layer and therefore be able to move it to the proper place on your audio timeline (to bring it up click on the speaker icon in the lower-right corner of the interface.

[MOTION] Motion crashes when using your product, what do I do?

There are several things that you can do to improve the app's stability:

1. Make sure that it is up-to-date. The updates are free and available via App Store,
2. Try re-downloading it from your Account page because the downloaded .zip file may be corrupted.
3. Render it out without any footage. If it goes through without a problem then your footage (format/codec) may be the cause of your problem.
4. Trash Motion's preference files:
  - make sure Motion isn't running in the background,
  - go to your /Users/user_name/Library/Preferences folder (it is hidden but you can find it by opening Finder, going up to its Go menu and holding Alt - a new link to the "user" Library catalog will show up),
  - find and delete the following files (be sure to back them up first):
    a) Motion 4 - com.apple.motion.plist and com.apple.motion.plist.lockfile,
    b) Motion 5 - com.apple.motionapp.plist and com.apple.motionapp.plist.lockfile as well as com.apple.motionapp.LSSharedFileList.plist and com.apple.motionapp.LSSharedFileList.plist.lockfile,

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/Motion_Prefs.png

  - run the app,
5. If you're using any external drives, try working on your internal HDD/SSD instead. This will also improve the template's overall performance.
6. Copy the project's content to a completely new one.
7. Set your final Render settings in the upper-right corner of the UI and select "Use Canvas Setting" for each setting during export.
8. Try creating a fresh administrator's account (System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> "+") and check if it works properly there. This way you'll know if it's a system/user preference-related problem.

[MOTION] How do I export a Lower 3rd with transparent background?

The key is to find which layers don't generate proper Alpha Channel (for example have some Blend Mode applied) and turn them off:

  1. The flare effects are usually pre-rendered and set to Add/Screen (unless you're working on an mFlare-based project - in this case just turn on its Generate Alpha feature).
  2. Every fullscreen overlays such as burns, scratches, dusts etc.
  3. You won't need the background Drop Zone (Placeholder) at all so just delete it.

Once you have a "clean" lower 3rd, export it to ProRes 4444 (or a TIFF/TGA/PNG image sequence) with Alpha Channel. Now go back to the project and export just the missing elements (flares, scratches - everything except the BG Drop Zone) one by one.
After that you'll end up with all of the lower 3rd's components, which you can put together in your target application. Be sure to change their Blend Modes so that they match the original project, this way everything will be OK.

[MOTION] How can I scale/reposition a Drop Zone's content?

There are two ways of doing this:

1. Select the desired Drop Zone, go to Inspector -> Image tab and play with the Scale and Pan settings:

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/Frame_Drop_Zone.png

2. Use Motion's Tile filter which also gives you the possibility to rotate and skew your footage. You can learn how to use it in the following tutorial.

[MOTION] I have a lot of your templates and it's getting hard to recognize which is which. Is there anything I can do about it?

If you open a project in Motion, you'll be able to publish it as template (File -> Publish as Template). After doing this, Motion will automatically copy the project to your /Users/user_name/Movies/.../ folder as well as generate thumbnails based on your current frame. This way, when using Motion's Project Browser, you'll see their thumbnails instead of the default project icon.

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/Thumbnails_Before.png http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/Thumbnails_After.png

[MOTION] How can I change a project's resolution?

Changing the project's resolution (CMD+J) doesn't scale the whole scene, instead it crops the camera's field of view. The easiest way to change the resolution is to render the whole template in its native resolution to a lossless image sequence (TIFF/TGA..), import it back to a new project with your target resolution set and scale it down so that it fits inside the scene. After that you can export it to whichever format you like.

[MOTION] How can I change a project's frame rate?

There's only one place, which allows you to set the project's frame rate - while creating a new project. After that you won't be able to change it directly in the project properties (CMD+J). Fortunately, there are a few workarounds, which can help you adjust the frame rate once the project is completed:

  1. Use our free mFPSconverter.
  2. Export the whole thing to an image sequence and import back as [your-target-frame-rate] footage.
  3. Use the method described in the following tutorial (Motion 5 can open multiple projects at the same time so it's applicable there as well).
  4. Use the template in Final Cut Pro X, this way it will automatically adapt it to your timeline's frame rate.

With these options available and the fact that 24p gives our projects a more "film-like" look, we decided to make them all this way.

[MOTION] I want to change some settings but they are not on your list of published elements. What's the fastest way to do this?

Motion has a few features which can help you find what you're looking for:

1. Let's say you have already edited some texts in the Project -> Inspector -> Publishing tab but you wish to change some additional details (tracking etc). Simply right-click on the published element's name and chose "Reveal Original Parameter". Motion will automatically select the source text layer and highlight the parameter you were looking at. This works for all published parameters.

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/Reveal_Original_Parameter.png

2. You need to find a specific element within the scene, for example a Drop Zone. The fastest way to do this is to use the Search tool located right below the Layer Browser. Simply type in the word(s) you're looking for and Motion will automatically filter out the rest.

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/Screen Shot 2013-05-09 at 3.48.51 PM.png

[MOTION] After opening a template I see a bunch of stuff, how do I edit the basic elements without going into the advanced elements?

The easiest way to edit our templates in Motion 5 is to select the Project layer inside the Layer Browser and go to Inspector -> Project -> Publishing. You'll find a whole list of most commonly used parameters which we have gathered for you there.

Replacing the Drop Zones is as easy as dragging-and-dropping your footage directly onto the desired Drop Zone. If Motion replaces some other one instead, go ahead and import the media files (photos, videos) that you'll be dropping onto the Drop Zones. After that once again select the Project layer, go to Inspector -> Project -> Publishing and click on the "To" rollout next to the desired Drop Zone and pick your imported clip from the list.

[MOTION] How do I install your products and where can I find them in Motion 3/4/5?

Motion 5 templates' workflow for Motion 5 has been covered by Szymon in his tutorial on installing and using our Motion 5 templates.

In general, all you need to do is move the extracted folders to their respective locations:

  • Lower3rd folder  -> /Movies/Motion Templates/Titles/motionVFX/
  • Project folder  -> /Movies/Motion Templates/Generators/motionVFX/
  • Title folder  -> /Movies/Motion Templates/Titles/motionVFX/
  • Transition folder  -> /Movies/Motion Templates/Transitions/motionVFX/
  • Effect folder  -> /Movies/Motion Templates/Effects/motionVFX/

After that you can access them via Motion's Project Browser:

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/mCredits_01_Add_To_Cart_Login.png

You can also just double-click on a project file and Motion will start automatically. Motion 4 and Motion 3 templates share a similar workflow - open the purchased project in Motion by double-clicking on it (or via File -> Open menu), make your edits there and/or publish as Template and use it directly inside Final Cut Pro.

How do I install the included fonts?

Simply open them using Font Book.app (you can find it in your Applications folder) and hit Install.

Please note that since OSX Lion, Apple has included a more advanced font verification system. Because of this Font Book may display some issues with fonts, which were previously OK. This doesn't always mean that the font is unusable, in general if there are no errors (just one-two warnings), there shouldn't be any problems with installing it.

Can I open a Motion 5 template in Motion 4/Final Cut Pro 7?

Motion 5 templates are not backwards compatible and therefore you won't be able to open them in Motion 4 or FCP7. But many of our clients also work with these apps, they just bought Motion 5 (which costs only $50!) and use it next to them (it doesn't overwrite your old Motion, just make sure they have unique names). Simply open a template -> edit what you want -> export to a low-compression mov (or a lossless image sequence), import to FCP7 and voila! Sure, it's not the same as dropping the templates directly into Final Cut but our projects became a lot better and therefore heavier, which means they couldn't be recreated in Motion 4, mainly due to it's lower performance.

Why don't you have a separate tutorial for each project?

There is no real solution to this because every project is completely different and there is no way of making an universal tutorial for adapting, retiming, looping etc. We'd have to make a new one every time a fresh template comes out and we simply don't have time for that. We do our best to deliver best and most customizable templates out there and provide everything necessary for editing our projects:

  1. For customers who don't really know Motion we publish the most commonly used parameters so that they are easily editable in either Motion or FCPX.
  2. For advanced users we keep everything tidy so that they could easily find everything within the scene and optimize our projects to avoid affecting customers' workflow in a negative way.

We assume that each client applies to one of these groups and, since we are not a Motion/Final Cut Pro X training company, we can't help them transition from a novice to a pro, they need to learn these apps themselves.

Which elements are pre-rendered?

Basically all of our templates are fully editable though they can contain some pre-rendered elements such as keyed hands (Project_485), smoke, explosions (Project_616) etc. with an exception of footage-based templates (for example #632) or projects like Motion template #480 (which is based on a Cinema 4D scene and therefore would be impossible to recreate in Motion). Other than that we avoid using pre-rendered elements, mainly because we want to give our clients the highest level of editability.

Which PremiumBeat song did you use in your demo video?
There is no music in the downloaded template, can you send it to me?

We have a lot of projects with our own audio but often use PremiumBeat music for presentation purposes. In both cases we include additional info on the project's Description tab:

1. Audio track is included - you can see a "Yes" next to the note icon:

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/

2. Audio track from PremiumBeat.com was used and is not included in the package - you can see a "No" next to the note icon as well as detailed info about the music file (the track's name is a clickable link which will redirect you to the proper PremiumBeat page):

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/

There are no fonts in the downloaded ZIP file.

This usually happens with corrupted archives so please try re-downloading it from your Account page and use some third-party extracting software (such as The Unarchiver which is free and available at the App Store) as Mac OS X Lion often has problems with unzipping files, even the ones created by itself.

We do our best to attach everything you need to run our projects but if such a situation occurs, let us know at support@motionvfx.com

The downloaded project has missing elements, why?

There are several different reasons that can cause this warning to occur:
1. Free templates - [Missing Generator/Filter] - our free mFlare/mGlitch templates are meant to show the power of our plugins so you need to have them installed when running these projects. You can get them from our mPlugs page.

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/

2. Paid templates - [Missing Generator: mFlare] - our templates often ship in two versions: one based on our mFlare plugin and one with these effects pre-rendered. If you don't own this plugin, all you need to do is run the file WITHOUT the "_mFlare" suffix and it will work OK. If you really want to edit the flares, you can try it out by downloading the demo version.

3. Missing Font - all of our projects that use third-party fonts have them attached inside the zipped package. Simply go to the Font(s) folder, open them up with Font Book.app, install and restart the app.

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/

4. Missing Media - make sure that the Media folder is in the same place as the project file, otherwise the app won't be able to find them and will display this warning:

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/

5. Red "Missing Media" screen in Finder - the preview, to which we were used to when using Motion 4 is not available at this point. It relies on QuickTime components and since Motion 5 is a 64bit app and QT is still 32bit, the previews don't work for Motion 5 projects.

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/

The downloaded ZIP file is corrupted!

We test all of our files before releasing so there's very little chance that the source ZIP is corrupted. Please try re-downloading it from your Account page and, since Mac OS X Lion often has problems with unzipping files (even the ones created by itself), we recommend that you use some third-party extracting software (such as The Unarchiver which is free and available at the App Store).

If you experience problems with completing the download, be sure to use some kind of download resumer (for example Speed Download - they have a 30-day trial which should be more than enough), this way your files should be downloaded properly.

I changed my mind, can you give me a refund?

All of our products are provided as downloadable content and therefore all transactions are final and non-refundable.

Why are your templates so expensive?

They are not that expensive if you think about it. Please consider what you get:

  1. It's not just one template, the majority of them are Motion 5 Template SETS - Project, Lower 3rd, Title and Transition (sometimes a Generator and Effect as well) so you get 4 templates instead of 1.
  2. We sometimes use PremiumBeat music for presentation purposes but often include our own audio (see the template's Description tab for more info).
  3. Our templates are fully editable, no pre-rendered projects here (except for footage-based templates [for example #632] or projects like Motion template #480 [which is based on a Cinema4D scene and therefore would be impossible to recreate in Motion]).
  4. We test all of our templates in FCP so that you don't experience any problems. Many of them are modified several times so that Final Cut can handle them.
  5. Our competition is far behind us when it comes to quality. As a matter of fact they literally steal from us... even our stuff from over a year ago. We try to move forward with every new project.
  6. All of our Motion 5 template sets have their main settings (Drop Zones, texts etc) published. This not only allows you to edit them in FCPX but also simplifies this process in Motion.
I've purchased a wrong product, can I swap it for a different one or receive a refund?

All of our products are provided as downloadable content and therefore all transactions are final and non-refundable. That being said, there are cases in which we can make an exception, so if there's a solid reason, feel free to contact us at support@motionvfx.com

Your site doesn't work properly, who do I have to contact about it?

You can always contact us at support@motionvfx.com. We reply to all e-mails so if you don't receive a response from us, please check if your mailbox doesn't block or treat our messages as SPAM.

How can I subscribe/unsubscribe from your Newsletter?

Both actions can be done via the Newsletter page. Please note that to successfully unsubscribe, you need to click on the blue "CONFIRMATION LINK" from the e-mail we send you after typing in your address on the mentioned page:

What are mCredits and how do I use them?

The fraud check is necessary every time you make an actual payment but we have an alternative method which allows you to do instant purchases - mCredits. You can access them from your Account page by clicking on the Buy mCredits button.
1 mCredit = $1 so you can use them to pay for the desired products on our page. 2checkout's verification process takes place only once (when you pay for the mCredits), spending them afterwards doesn't require that process so you don't have to wait. Although the mCredits can't be mixed with the standard payment methods (the Cart's total value can't exceed the available amount of mCredits), you can save a lot of money (the more you buy the more you save - up to $1000!). Note that you get only one invoice - the one generated after buying mCredits (making the actual payment), the other transactions won't have them since there's no "physical" money involved.

Here are the steps you need to take to pay with mCredits:

1. After adding products to your Cart, go to your Account page or click on the Shopping Cart. Log in if needed:

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/mCredits_01_Add_To_Cart_Login.png

2. Scroll down and make sure you have enough mCredits:

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/mCredits_01_Add_To_Cart_Login.png

3. Go back up, select the "PAY WITH mCREDITS" (it won't be visible if you don't have the required amount available) and "I ACCEPT CONDITIONS" checkboxes and click CHECKOUT:

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/mCredits_01_Add_To_Cart_Login.png

The purchased product(s) should be instantly available in the Order history group at the bottom of your Account page.

Additionally, we have introduced the possibility to use our Promo Codes in conjunction with mCredits so you can save twice!

Is there a way to upgrade my license from Standard to Extended?

Yes, after purchasing a Standard License, the system will add a third type - Extended License Upgrade. Just be sure to log in first, otherwise it won't be visible.

The download is really slow, are there any problems with your server?

We have a high-end server with a 500Mbit line (with peaks reaching 1Gbit) so there's plenty of room for downloading. You could trace your route to locate the bottlenecks (for example using MTR). There are three possible explanations, depending on the trace results:

  1. Packets are being lost near your location - make sure nothing is blocking our website. If you're using Growl, disable it as it can affect the transfer speeds drastically,
  2. Packets are being lost or ping is going up somewhere in the middle of the route - there may be some maintenance works along the way and your route is being redirected via a longer/slower path. For more info contact your Internet Service Provider,
  3. Packets are being lost or ping is going up on our end - let us know at support@motionvfx.com, we'll check it out.
Are there any promotional codes available? If yes, where can I find them and how do I use them?

Every once in a while we provide a promotional code which helps our customers save money. They are usually provided in our Newsletter but often can be found on our Twitter or Facebook. Just type it into the "Promotional Code" field during Checkout and hit Enter. A proper amount will be automatically deducted from your final price.

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/

I forgot my login/password, is there a way to retrieve it?

Of course, just use the "Forgot your password?" page. Once you type in your e-mail address (provided during the registration process) and hit Send, our system will dispatch you an automated response containing your login as well as a link allowing you to reset your password. If you don't receive it, simply add our domain to your mailbox's white list and repeat the recovery process. This way everything should be fine.

How can I download free templates?

Just add them to your cart and go through Checkout. After a while you'll receive an e-mail stating that the transaction is complete and the products are ready for download (if not, please check if your mailbox doesn't block or treat our messages as spam). You can do it either by clicking on the links included in this message or by logging in at our website and going to your Account page. You will find them in the Order History group at the bottom of the page.

Why does the invoice have different info than what I typed in during Checkout? Can you change it for me?

The invoices are generated automatically based on the info provided during the registration process at motionVFX.com, NOT at 2checkout.com (when making the payment after checking out at motionVFX.com).
Both our store and fiscal systems are connected together and fully automated, because of this we are not able to change anything once the transaction is completed. You can change your info for your future purchases though, to do this simply go to your Account page, click on the "Change details" button, fill the desired fields and hit save. Once completed, all of your new invoices will contain the correct info.

I need an invoice for the purchased products, where can I find it?

The fact that you own an account at our website also means that you have access to your whole Order history which contains links to the invoices in PDF format. To find them just log in at our website and go to your Account page, you'll see them at the bottom:

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/

I lost my files, can I re-download them?

Please refer to the "I didn't receive the download link, can you resend it?" section of this FAQ.

How long do I have to wait for the verification process to finish?
I didn't receive the download link, can you resend it?

The e-mails are being sent automatically and we have never experienced a case, in which a message wasn't sent because of some system error. That being said, every once in a while they can get "lost" along the way, so please check if your mailbox doesn't block or treat our messages as SPAM. Add our domain (www.motionVFX.com) to your white list. Note that you can also download all of your purchased products by going to your Account page, scrolling down to the "Order history" and clicking on the "Click to download" link next to the desired order:

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/faq/

If all you can see is "Expired. Click to renew.", simply click on it and type in your password in the pop-up. This way you'll renew the download link and it will be usable once again.

What kind of payment methods do you support?

All of our transactions are being handled by a third-party checkout gate - 2checkout.com. You can check which payment methods they (and therefore we) support on their FAQ page.

Why do you charge VAT and why is it so high?

VAT only applies to our customers located within the European Union, who don't own an EU-registered VAT number (you can validate it here). If you have one then just go to your Account page  click on the "Change Details" button and type it in along with your company name in the "Company data" section at the bottom (both fields have to be filled). Be sure NOT to include the country-specific prefix (GB/FR/AU), just the part after that. This will do the trick.

Even though VAT varies depending on where you're located, our company is situated in Poland and we have to charge the amount established by the Polish government, right now it's 23%.

After purchasing a product, I see a "Waiting for fraud review" info. What does it mean?

All of our transactions are being handled by a third-party checkout gate - 2checkout.com. For your and our safety, every transaction needs to pass a fraud check. This process usually takes 5-10 minutes but the time can vary depending on your bank, location etc. After the transaction passes through, you'll receive an automated confirmation e-mail containing the download link.

Do I need some special application to be able to use your products?

It depends on which products you have in mind. Our store has different sections for each series of products:

  1. Motion 5 templates can be used in both Apple Motion 5 and Final Cut Pro X,
  2. Motion 4 templates can be used in both Apple Motion 4 and Final Cut Pro 7,
  3. Motion 3 templates can be used in both Apple Motion 3 and Final Cut Pro 6,
  4. After Effects templates can be used in Adobe After Effects CS4 or higher. If you own the full Production Premium package then you can also use them in Premiere Pro via Dynamic Link,
  5. Cinema 4D templates can be used in Maxon Cinema 4D R11.5 but often utilize additional modules, all of which are included in the Studio version (for more info check the template's Description tab),
  6. Stock footage/elements are simple videos which you can use in an editing/compositing application of your choice (make sure it supports Blending/Composite Modes as it is required by some of them [for example mLeaks, mBurns etc]),
  7. Plugins and Packs often support multiple applications, for more info please refer to the PLUGINS section of this FAQ.
Which License should you buy?

When purchasing an item, you are simultaneously buying a license for usage of that item. This license gives you different rights of using the item in different ways.

We offer two types of licenses for all templates and stock elements: Standard License and Extended License. Software License applies when purchasing motionVFX software (mPlugs: for example mLooks, mFlare, mBurns, etc.).

Standard License
The Standard License grants you, the Purchaser, a non-exclusive, non-transferrable right to make use of the work that you acquire [mProduct (the product sold by motionVFX.com)].

Your use of the mProduct, under the Standard License, is subject to the following conditions:

1. The mProduct may be used in perpetuity in one production only. If the file will be used in more than one production, it needs to be purchased with Extended License.

For example, if you purchase a Motion Template file and utilize it in a corporate video, you can show or display that video only once. However, if you will be using the same file in another different production, on different workstation or you would like to broadcast your video periodically or multiple times, you would need to purchase Extended License of that file.

2. You may use the mProduct alone or you may incorporate the mProduct into another work you are creating.

3. The mProduct purchased under Standard License is limited to a single workstation only.

4. You must NOT incorporate the mProduct in a work which is created for Resale by you or your client.

5. You may NOT advertise customization service of mProducts on your website.

6. You may NOT create any competitive products based on mProducts.

Reselling: Items purchased under a standard or extended license may NOT be redistributed or resold "as-is" or as part of any other collection of project resources or files. In other words, you may not re-sell our files as stock footage/media in any way. Items purchased under a standard or extended license may NOT be advertised as "your product" in any way.

Extended License
The Extended License grants you, the Purchaser, a non-exclusive, non-transferrable right to make use of the work that you acquire. Your use of the mProduct (the product sold by motionVFX.com), under the Extended License, is subject to the following conditions:

1. The mProduct may be used in local, national and international broadcast production, film, independent film, corporate video, web video, video production, website, educational video, printed format, electronic document such as Keynote presentation, as part of software you create and in a music track, etc..

2. You may use the mProduct alone or you may incorporate the mProduct into another work you are creating.

3. The mProduct may be used in more than one production. In other words, it can be used multiple times in unlimited amount of productions.

4. The mProduct purchased under Extended License is NOT limited to a single workstation and can be used on multiple machines.

For example, if you purchase a Motion Template file and utilize it in a corporate video, you may re-distribute or broadcast that video as many times as you like. You may also use the same source file in another productions multiple times and on other machines in your office.

5. When using the mProduct, you may make unlimited copies of the mProduct but you must procure that your clients do not reproduce or use them in another application.

6. If the mProduct is used or incorporated in a work, there is no restriction on the number of copies of that work that can be reproduced and distributed.

7. You may NOT advertise customization service of mProducts on your website.

8. You may NOT create any competitive products based on mProducts.

The Extended license costs 5 times the cost of the Standard License of the item.
For example, a project file that’s $49 under a Standard License, would be $245 (5 x $49) under an Extended license.

I can't place the order using my Credit Card. What's wrong?

◦ If you are declined multiple times in the same purchase session, you will be blocked from ordering as a security feature. Although you may attempt to use different cards if the purchase session has been blocked you will receive an Authorization Failed: Authorization Failed error message. In most cases where multiple cards are used and this error message is received the issuing bank for the cards used after this error is first received may not even see the attempts to order. You will need to either clear the cookies in your browser and attempt to place the order, or you may wait 30 minutes for the purchase session to expire.

If you receive an Authorization Failed: Do Not Honor error message, the error is most likely related to the charge appearing as an international transaction to the issuing bank for the card. In these instances, you should contact your bank to advise you are attempting to place the order and to allow the charge to be processed. You may also need to clear the cookies in your browser to begin a new purchase session.

If you receive an Authorization Failed: Authentication Failed error message, the error is most likely received because the authorization requires Verified by Visa or MasterCard secure code authentication. In most cases the bank cannot even see the authorization attempt unless it passes this authentication. To resolve this you should ensure that you are being sent to a page on your bank's server (if not it is most likely a popup blocker issue) and then ensuring that you signup for the service (VBV or MCSC). If a page is not loading and you are not using a popup blocker then the issue is most likely a session locking issue and you should either wait 30 minutes or clear your cookies and restart your browser so that a new purchase session is used when you replace the order. If you are still unable to load the VBV or MCSC page please contact 2Checkout with the VBV or MCSC url that is shown in your browser so that 2Checkout may bypass that page.

I didn't receive my download link! What's wrong?

The download link is sent right after the order is finished. If you've not received your download link within few minutes, please check your spam mailbox. If it's not in there, it's probably been blocked at your server level. If so, please drop us a mail and we will reply with the download link as soon as possible: support@motionvfx.com

YOU CAN ALSO LOGIN INTO YOUR ACCOUNT IN THE RIGHT TOP OF THIS SITE AND FIND YOUR DOWNLOAD LINK THERE AND NOT LEAVING THE STORE .

mCredits - what's that?

The idea behind mCredits is simple - it's an amazing way to save money and time! 1 mCredit = $1. Once you purchase mCredits and pass the verification process, you can use them for  downloading our products without any delays or waiting. You can think of mCredits as of a virtual wallet at motionVFX - you fill it first and then use it for downloading products. The more mCredits you purchase, the more you save. And guess what, mCredits can now be used with the discount coupons!

I have some mCredits left. Can I use them with some other payment?

No, mCredits can't be connected with other ways of payments, so you'll need to purchase additional mCredits in order to use them.
For example, you have 4 mCredits left and the product is $49. In order to download it with mCredits, you need to purchase additional pack of mCredits.

Will all motionVFX's Motion Templates work with Motion 5?

Yes. We're happy to announce that all our Motion Templates work great in Motion 5. Even more, they look more beautiful thanks to Apple's new color gamma!

How to install Motion 5 Templates so I could use them in Motion 5 and FCPX?

When I try to open the project file a message comes up saying that I must have Motion 5.2 or later to open.

The message you are getting is actually Apple's bug in their 5.0.2 release, so PLEASE update your Motion to the latest version - you can download it from the Mac App Store: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/motion/id434290957?mt=12

We've had clients who tried to update Motion and ended up with an old one instead (after updating). In this case the easiest solution is to drag your Motion app to Trash (yes, it's ok to do that) and install it again from the App Store. That should do the trick.

How to publish Motion 4 Templates so I could use them in FCPX?

Watch this great video tutorial created by Mark Spencer

Can I open Motion 5 Templates in Motion 4?

Unfortunately no. Motion 5 is not backwards compatible and you'll not be able to use Motion 5 Templates in Motion 4 nor in FCP7. HOWEVER, you can run Motion 5 next to your Motion 4 and FCP7 copy - you can then export QuickTime movie out of it and use it in FCP7 if you are still not sure about FCPX. Motion 5 is $50 only ! Common ! :-)

I get "Error 22 - Invalid argument" error while trying to unarchive .zip file

If you experience unarchiving problems with any of our ZIP files and you receive following error during the unarchive process
http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/archive_utility_lion_error.png

please use another unarchive software - for example The Unarchiver:

http://www.motionvfx.com/tutorials/blog/unarchiver_icon.png

(click the icon to download the software from Mac App Store)

After placing the template into FCPX all I can see is a BLUE SCREEN. What's wrong?

This is an old FCPX error related to it's earlier builds. Please update to the latest version and everything will be OK.

I bought your templates and all I get is some HTML code when I'm trying to download them.

It happens when your browser tries to open the file instead of saving it. You can either change your browser settings or right click on the link and choose "Download Linked File" - Safari will automatically save it into your Downloads folder.

How can I convert Motion HD Template into any other resolution or SD project?

Please check our Tutorials section to find out how to do it: http://www.motionvfx.com/mtuts.html

Do you produce any Motion tutorials or do you know where can I learn Apple Motion ?

To be honest, we are too busy creating our Apple Motion Templates, so we recommend that you should use our firend's, Mark Spencer tutorials, who's one of the best Motion instructors our there.

Can I open Motion 4 Template in Motion 3? (Tip by: Mark Spencer)

Yes, you can open a Motion 4 project in Motion 3.

1) Launch TextEdit

2) Choose File > Open, navigate to the Motion 4 project file, and open it. It opens in TextEdit and looks like this:

3) On the third line, where it says , change the 4 to a 3.

4) Save.  That’s it! Your Motion 4 project will now open in Motion 3.

Of course, any Motion 4 features, such as reflections, shadows, depth of field, or new behaviors WON'T work, but all Motion 3 features should work fine. (motionVFX): Remember, that all Gradients used in such project converted back to Motion 3 will NOT work as well. We CANNOT guarantee that above method will work with every template and we will NOT refund the order if it wont, so please proceed on your own risk.

I have Motion 4 and I get an error: "The document "filename" could not be opened.". What??

This is well known problem discussed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3061

Can our After Effects CS4 Templates be used in After Effects CS3 or earlier?

No. After Effects is not backward compatible.

How can I resize After Effects Templates?

There is no easy way, but you can use AE Resizer made by Richard Harrington: http://www.richardharringtonblog.com/html/downloads/Resizer.aet.zip

How do I contact you?
