Apple is rumored to be preparing for a spring release of Final Cut Studio 4, the professional video editing suite of applications for Mac. The rumor from Hardmac, says that the Final Cut Studio software should be announced in March or April of this year.

The rumor also mentions that an update won't be what many of Final Cut Studio's long-time pro users are expecting. The UI would take a dramatic turn toward the pro-sumer level.

According to Hardmac, two versions of Final Cut Studio are currently in beta. One version is for users with Mac OS X 10.6.5 Snow Leopard, and the other for users running the next version of Mac OS X, 10.7 Lion. Some of the features won't be available on Snow Leopard version, due to the changes made on QuickTime layer.

The newest version of Final Cut Studio was expected to show up in 2010, but the development process had suffered setbacks, caused by concept of having an integrated and unified user interface between all the Studio applications.

So, after upgrading to Leopard we're now expected to upgrade once again to Lion and then the new FCP? Just how much money does Steve Jobs want? Will FCP stop crashing if I give him more money?

I really hope it doesn't lean toward the pro-sumer market, that's what Final Cut Express is for.
FCE should be like Photoshop Elements is to Photoshop. A stripped down, easy to manage version of the full Pro Application.
Dumbing down Final cut Pro/Studio will only diminish the brands reputation in the pro film and television industries and result in a migration of the faithful to Avid and Adobe. Of course once the Pro's leave then the aspirational element of learning a professional application is gone, loosing Apple the Prosumer market as well.

True. Sometimes I feel like Apple sometimes forgets that their success is coming from Pro video/graphic market.
