Hi MotionVFX! I'm looking to use mFlare in a logo design that will sit on a website. I need the bg of the logo to be transparent. Is there any way to do this with mFlare? I tried to use the linear add setting as suggested in the tutorial, which works well if there is another layer behind the layer with the flare. However, if the bottom layer is transparent, this setting will not get rid of the background. I tried in motion as well and received similar results. I'm just looking for how to create a lens flare layer w/ a transparent background. Thanks in advance! |

You can simply generate mFlare on a black color and use it with Add blending - that will do the trick. You can also create a Alpha Channel out of your color mFlare element. |

Hi Szymon, Thank you for the response. I am still not getting the right results and believe it may be through not explaining my goal properly. I need to get a flare behind a logo, which will sit only on a transparent layer. So I need the flare to come with it the text, but nothing else. Is this possible with mFlare? I tried your first solution of using "add blending" - however this only works if I have another image or color underneath the mFlare layer. My goal is to have the background be entirely transparent, with just the flare present. If I do this, with no color/image on a lower layer, the black of the flare layer remains. I'm not sure I understand the second solution. Would that get me the results I'm after? If so, can you plz explain? Szymon, thanks very much for the help sir! I really appreciate it and love this tool! |

You can create an Alpha out of the current mFlare element in Motion. To do that simply duplicate your mFlare element, add Image Mask to the original one and use duplicated mFlare as a image mask BUT with Illuminance channel. That's it. In Photoshop you have to also create an Alpha our of the illuminance. We plan to have "native" (Motion at the moment) Alpha Channel in upcoming release. |

That's the trick! Thank you Szymon. You're the man! |

Hi Szymon, i´m actually testing the demo of mFlare and it looks quite nice in Motion. But i didn´t managed it to get the photoshop plugin work. Normaly you just have to copy the plugin into the plugin folder and restart photoshop. But in case of mFlare there is no plugin data to copy. Can you help me? Thanks in advance! Thomas |

Please make sure you are running latest version, 1.2.1 and you'll be fine - you can download it from your Account Information after logging into your account. |

Hi Szymon, thank you for your response. I´m currently running the mFlare 1.2.1 demo. Should the photoshop plugin be installed automatically within the installation process of mFlare or do i have to do something else to install the plugin? Or is it because i´m using photoshop elements 9? Normaly CS4/CS5 plugins work on elements too. Thank you in advance! Best regards Thomas |

Thomas, all should be done automatically. We have not tested it with Elements so we do not support it. Go to your MacHD > Library > Application Support > mFlare > Temp. There are 2 folders: "32" and "64" - inside you have Photoshop plugins for 32bit and 64bit. Copy one of them to your Photoshop plugins directory. But just like I said, Elements is not something we support. Let us know if that works :) |

Hi Szymon, thank you for the information and i can tell you now that mFlare works fine with Photoshop Elements too. ;) I just put the 32bit Plugin into the Photoshop Plugins folder and it worked. Thank you very much for your support. I´ve upgraded to the full version now ;) Thomas |

Hi Szymon, I have the latest full updated version of mFlare successfully using it with FCP7 but unsuccessfully in Photoshop CS5.0. I've followed the directions in previous posts by adding the 64bit then the 32bit files into the mFlare Temp folder, but neither works. I even did a photoshop and mac re-start, but MotionVFX is still grayed out under my Filters tab in PS CS5. I'm running OS 10.6.8. mFlare apparently did not auto-install into my PS CS5. Any suggestions? |

Jeff, it usually happens to the customers installing PS into some weird custom path. Could you please email us with your problem? support@motionvfx.com That installation issue will be fixed anyway in new version of mFlare as we'll be doing it little bit different way. |
