How to Add to and Rearrange Multicam Clip in DaVinci Resolve
Following up from where we left off after having learned how to create multicam clips in DaVinci Resolve, let’s add some new clips there and rearrange existing ones within our multicam clip.
Adding Clips
If you’ve forgotten about a clip (or a few), you can still add them to your multicam setup, and it’s not even all that complicated. Suppose you shot some silent footage with a drone and realized it would be a nice addition to your multicam sequence. Here’s how you can include it without disrupting the synced material:
- Create a New Angle: Right-click within the multicam clip in your timeline and select the option to add a new angle.

- Insert the New Clip: Drag your new clip into the newly created angle slot. This method ensures that you’re adding visual diversity without losing any pre-existing sync alignment.

Be cautious about where you place new clips. If you already have a master audio mix occupying a certain angle (let’s say Angle 5), you’ll want to avoid overwriting it. Instead, you’ll want to add your new video clip to a different angle to preserve your audio setup.
Rearranging Clips Within a Multicam Clip — DaVinci Resolve
Sometimes, after reviewing your sequence, you might decide the order of the angles could be better. Maybe you want to switch the primary camera view or rearrange angles based on the content’s flow. Here’s how you can rearrange the clips:
- Open the Multicam Clip: Double-click the multicam clip in your timeline to open it up and view all the angles.
- Adjust the Order: Right-click on the angle you want to move. You’ll see options to move the angle up or down in the sequence. If you decide that Angle 3 would be better served in the position of Angle 2, simply right-click on Angle 3 and choose to move it down.

- Review Changes: After making adjustments, reload the multicam clip in the source viewer to ensure the changes appear as you intended.
To keep your multicam clip tidy, consider giving them not only purpose but also names. You can also remove any empty angles that aren’t being used. This cleans up the interface and makes it easier to manage the remaining angles.
