How to Navigate DaVinci Resolve Media Page: Beginner’s Guide

2 mins read

DaVinci Resolve Media Page is the solution to keeping your source media neatly organized, and distinct from the project data you work with on subsequent pages. This distinction means smooth management and updating of clips, managing timelines, toggling between offline and online media, and solving any arising issues.

The Basic Division of DaVinci Resolve Media Page

The DaVinci Resolve Media Page is divided into six key areas, each designed to deal with a different part of the process of finding, selecting, and managing your media. Most commands and functionalities are nestled within contextual menus, easily accessed with a right-click in strategic sections such as the Library, File Browser, or Media Pool.

Media Storage Browser

Media Storage Browser is the door to all available volumes on your Resolve workstation. Getting there allows you to pinpoint and import media manually into your project, from any of the digital storage units connected to your system. Using this functionality, you can bring up any clip that you want, and start working on it, or view it in a viewer.

Viewer

Upon selecting clips within the Media Page, the Viewer will display the contents of your chosen clips. It comes with a jog bar for easy navigation through the clip, transport controls for basic playback actions, and a timecode display for precise editing. The Viewer can also transform into a Cinema Viewer, occupying your full screen for an unobstructed view of your footage.

Media Pool

The Media Pool of DaVinci Resolve Media Page stores all imported video, audio, and still image media. It’s the base of every project’s media organization, allowing for the categorization of media into user-defined bins for streamlined access. The Media Pool is present across the Edit, Fusion, Color, and Fairlight pages for easier access.

The Workflow

Using the Media Page begins with the Media Storage Browser, where you identify and select the media to bring into your project (provided you import the media into DaVinci Resolve first). From there, the Viewer allows for preliminary inspection and auditioning of clips, providing tools for minor adjustments before any formal editing takes place. Finally, organizing your media within the Media Pool sets the stage for efficient editing, ensuring that everything you need is no more than a few clicks away.
