According to the producer Autodesk Smoke for Mac OS X combines the non-linear creative workflow of an editor with 3D visual effects and finishing tools. The result is the power to deliver today's best content fast – in a single, efficient creative application that fits the user's workflow. If you are using editors like Avid Media Composer and Apple Final Cut Pro 7, Smoke is designed to work with the same media and metadata as these editors.

Here are the main features of the suite (via official website):

  • All-in-One Editorial Finishing - Less complexity – more creativity
Smoke brings Autodesk's comprehensive creative tools to the Mac - in a single application built for fast and interactive finishing. It combines a proven toolset with the familiar workflow of a non-linear editor. The result is a powerful finishing solution that's easy to use and consistently delivers standout projects on time and on budget.
  • Powerful 3D Visual Effects – a whole new dimension in finishing
Interactive 3D finishing tools are at the core of Smoke. Work with light, media and geometry in a true 3D creative space as you create stunning motion effects and realistic finished results. Deliver mono- and Stereoscopic 3D projects with built-in tools for conforming, editing, viewing and compositing stereoscopic content. This means that you don’t have to redo all your work when you move from an off-line stage to an on-line finishing stage.
  • Native Support for Industry-Standard Formats - Tight integration and the formats you need
Smoke fits into your existing Mac-based workflow with support for the most popular camera-native and intermediate formats, tight integration with Apple® Final Cut Pro®, and built-in media management tools so you can get to work faster and collaborate better.

I would also like to mention that because Smoke is also an editor, you can do both editing and finishing in Smoke.

The video above shows how the process of AAF conformi shown you how simple the process of AAF conforming can be. You can do editing and finishing as well in Autodesk's program.

If you want to download the trial version of Autodesk Smoke follow this link. As you can see before the premiere of Final Cut Pro X everyone wants to get its own slice of the cake.
